Five tips for packing for a weekend away

An unplanned weekend business trip and a relaxing break at a mountain resort surprisingly have one thing in common: packing. And let us be honest, which man actually enjoys packing? We will share a few tips that will let you be ready next time without needless confusion, rush or worries about whether you have forgotten anything.

1. Draw up the list once and it will last forever

Packing by a list has surely crossed your mind already. Even so, we will mention it. If you often travel for work at the weekend, all the more reason why it will pay off. You only need to put the list together once and then follow it every time you are about to leave. We recommend preparing two – one for a business weekend and another one for a relaxing getaway with the family.

2. A weekend bag as the foundation

For trips that last around two to three days, a so-called weekend bag will do just fine. When you go looking for one, ask directly for a weekend bag. It is a high-quality, large leather bag with two hand straps. It usually has just one big zipped compartment and often has no shoulder strap at all. That is because it is not a sports bag and, if you are travelling in a suit, you really do not want to crumple it while carrying the bag from the car to your accommodation.

3. Small items you must not forget

A razor, fragrance, sunglasses, adapters, a spare set of underwear and socks, a basic first-aid kit – these are the little things that should always travel with you in your weekend bag. No matter how far you are going, a paper cut can happen at any moment, and a small nick on a finger can be very unpleasant for the rest of the journey. Always count on having one extra set of underwear and socks – the certainty of cleanliness and comfort is well worth it.

You will appreciate this especially on business trips, as an unintentionally creased shirt is a common travel mishap. A suit carrier may help prevent it, but it can still happen that you have an important meeting ahead of you and your shirt is not in ideal shape. That is why it pays to carry a small hand-held travel iron that allows you to press clothes while they are still hanging on a hanger. It will help more with last-minute touches than with ironing several shirts in a hotel room.

5. Rely on compatibility

The clothes and accessories you pack should not only suit the occasion, they should also work well together. It is better to pack complete outfits – while still at home put together the right shirt, tie, socks and any other accessories. With only rare exceptions a single suit should be enough, so keep in mind that every shirt and tie you prepare must pair well with it.

We believe that if you prepare the right packing list and do not forget to slip the small but essential items mentioned above into your weekend bag, nothing stands in the way of your trip. If you are heading off to relax, we wish you plenty of calm, and if duty calls, we keep our fingers crossed that everything goes your way!
