If there is one thing in a gentleman's wardrobe on which it does not pay to economise, it is the suit. It does not so much depend on whether you wear it daily to work or only on ceremonial occasions. In both cases you want to look impeccable and leave the very best impression. And it is precisely for these purposes that woollen suits are made.
A woollen suit is beautiful the moment you buy it and long afterwards
Wool is the ideal fabric for a suit for two reasons at once. The first is its visual aspect. Thanks to the fineness of the yarn, manufacturers are able to weave both minimalist models with a simple texture and more intricate 3D patterns for true connoisseurs.
Moreover, woollen yarn takes dye splendidly, which allows us to come forward each year with new shades and colours. Our suits are also often woven in a rich palette – meaning we use yarns in several colours for a single cloth. Their appearance is then all the more striking.
Wool is a pleasure to work with; it is pliable and easily adapts to the proportions of your body. A woollen suit thus allows you to achieve the desired silhouette.
In the summer collections you may encounter a woollen suit in a blend with other natural materials, such as linen and silk. A light summer suit of wool and linen offers not only a refreshing appearance but also brings a pleasant sense of coolness. Silk, for its part, lends a woollen suit an unmistakable natural sheen.
It provides natural thermoregulation
In addition to its luxurious appearance, wool offers many other practical qualities. Woollen fibres have unique properties that even the most modern technologies cannot imitate. While their interior is hollow, on the surface they form an irregular, textured structure of tiny protrusions and scales. It is this very structure that wool suits owe the fact that you will feel splendid in them in summer and in winter alike. How is that possible?
In winter wool works as a natural insulator. The folds and protrusions on the surface of the fibres trap the body's warmth and do not let it escape from the cloth. In summer, on the other hand, woollen fibres draw perspiration away from the body and absorb moisture. The moisture gathered in the folds then cools and evaporates, so that you will feel comfortable in the suit even on hot days.
You will appreciate the thermoregulatory qualities of wool especially when you wear a suit all day and need it to breathe well. If you are looking for a suit suited to regular daily wear, we recommend the suits from our Travel Suits collection.
